McLeod Cranes Lends a Helping Hand to Deep Dive Division at Hamilton Gardens

Updated: Mar 15, 2023

Combining Expertise and Dedication to Clean Up the Waikato River

At McLeod Cranes, we're committed to making a positive impact on our environment and the communities we serve.

We're honored to be supporting the Deep Dive Division in their ambitious Beyond the Surface project, aimed at cleaning up and restoring the health of the Waikato River with the support of the Waikato River Authority. Today, we're excited to share our joint efforts at the Hamilton Gardens' Water Treatment Plant Area.

The Hamilton Gardens site is a popular swim spot, frequented by locals and tourists alike. Despite warning signs, people often jump from the embankment above, dangerously close to submerged vehicles and other debris. Furthermore, the Waikato Explorer uses the jetty at this location to onboard and offboard passengers, making it a high-priority area for cleanup.

Deep Dive Division's divers are facing considerable challenges at this site, including low visibility, debris, sharp objects, and a strong 5-knot current. These conditions put the divers at significant risk as they perform the necessary rigging work to prepare the debris for removal.

To support their efforts, McLeod Cranes is providing a crane in-kind to assist in the safe and efficient extraction of the debris from the river. Our contribution helps to ease the burden on the Deep Dive Division team and enables them to focus on their vital work underwater.

Together, we are working to remove the following debris at the Hamilton Gardens site:

  • 6 submerged vehicles

  • 1-2 tonnes of metal debris

  • 5 bikes

  • Several Lime scooters

  • A motorbike

Our collaboration with the Deep Dive Division is a testament to the power of teamwork and shared goals. By combining our expertise in lifting with the Deep Dive Division's skills in diving and rigging, we are making significant strides in cleaning up the Waikato River for the benefit of all those who call the region home.

Stay tuned for updates on our continued work with the Deep Dive Division and the progress of the Beyond the Surface project. Together, we can make a lasting, positive impact on the Waikato River and its surrounding communities.
